Nut splitters (nut crackers) are highly specialized force-applying tools engineered specifically for the rapid, safe removal of heavily rusted, seized, or rounded-off nuts. Instead of hazardously cutting the nut off with an abrasive angle grinder (which risks destroying the threaded stud) or heating it with a torch, the mechanic slips the splitter ring over the nut. By tightening the drive screw, a hardened steel chisel point drives into the side of the nut, violently cracking it in half while leaving the internal bolt threads completely unharmed and ready for reuse.
